Reserva Ecologica Varahicacos (ecological preserve)

The park was established in 1974 as an ecological preserve. This 3 square-kilometers of protected land is located at the northeastern end of the Hicacos Peninsula. With short hiking trails through the scrub forests, its main attractions include: the Patriarca (a giant 500+ years old cactus), the Cueva de Ambrosio (a large cave inhabited by bats and adorned with several ancient pictograms), and the Cueva de Musulmanes (a cave with human remains dating back over 2,500 years). This protected area is the best place to view up close the flora and fauna and also some of the area’s aboriginal history.
This is "El otro Varadero" (the other Varadero).
